S.O.S. - SLEEP Training HELP!!!

My eyes are sore, red and burning. What does that indicate?
Here are some options – you guess:

(1) Jeremy and I enjoyed a bottle of wine last night
(2) I decided to stay up and read a book until 2am
(3) Jude decided to not sleep…again OR
(4) Wild night out with the ladies

Well since I have an 8 month old little boy and it was a Sunday night (school night as we say) pretty sure you guess right – NUMBER 3 is the correct answer!

Seriously Jude, remember that Sleeping Through The Night thing (STTN)? Yeah let’s go back to that, if you could do it when you were 8 weeks old certainly you can handle it when you are an 8 month old!! Please Please Please! Mommy looks and feels like hell today.

Okay, to my fearless readers I need your help! Here is our routine now and how he usually sleeps.

We do a late bed time – I have issues with putting him down at 7:30 or 8 because we do not get home from work until 5:30pm, that isn’t very much Turtle time and I just can’t let him go!! Maybe that is the problem, I don’t know.

Our “Normal” Perfect, More than I can ask for Routine!!!
9pm – start routine, if it is a bath night we do bath, if not it is straight into PJ’s.
9:15ishpm – In his nursery, lights dimmed, Rockabye baby cd playing, humidifier on and bottle in mouth. He eats about 5 ounces at bed time.
9:30ishpm – he is asleep while he finishes bottle, into his crib he goes, swaddle him up. Turn off lights – shut door. He is asleep.
6:15am – wake him up for the day.

Jude’s Recent Routine from HELL!!!
Same as above! 9pm – start routine, if it is a bath night we do bath, if not it is straight into PJ’s.
9:15ishpm – In his nursery, lights dimmed, Rockabye baby cd playing, humidifier on and bottle in mouth. He eats about 5 ounces at bed time.
12am (or earlier) - wakes up screaming!!!!!!!!!!!! We go in, he is wide awake. Pick screaming baby up. Rock in glider, he falls asleep – start to lay him down in crib – SCREAMING begins again!! Pick baby up! Try feeding, changing. Falls asleep in arms. Start to lay him down – SCREAMING BEGINS AGAIN!!!

Do you see a pattern? This went on from 12am-2am this morning (see above: reason why my eyes are killing me!!)

Jeremy and I took out the big guns last night around 1:45am – time to try the dreaded Cry It Out routine. He cried for 15 minutes – I was sick to my stomach and almost in tears myself. Not good!! He never fell asleep.
2am – we give him – he comes into our bed. Not something that we want to do but what else are working parents supposed to do? We have to get up and go to work!! And Lord knows that we both need our sleep.

2am-2:15am: Jude wins – he is wide awake and laughing and playing in our bed! Seriously child!!!!!!
6am – alarm goes off. All 3 of us are exhausted.

Here I am at work – now what? We need help! Any suggestions would be great! Thank you!

Much love from your red eyed, grouchy, barely awake author;

PS – these suggestions will not be used until after this weekend . Jeremy’s parents will be coming in on Thursday and staying with us until Sunday, no point in starting any sort of training yet! LOL Jude will probably be in our bed for the next week. Lucky Turtle. :O)

We have less than 1 week to get the playroom completely done AND the house cleaned - DEEP clean!
Jeremy's parents fly in on Thursday evening.
Busy weekend of cleaning.

First, though - we are off to swimming lessons this morning.
Time to release the Turtle to the sea.

Hoping to post pictures of said playroom this weekend!!!

Happy Saturday readers!

Y3W - Jude Broke Me!

Jude Broke Me!

Yes, I am blaming the baby. Ever since I was about 6 months pregnant my sciatic nerve has been SHOT!
I remember that morning clearly, I was in the shower and I had to sneeze. Well being that I was so off center I tried to hold in said sneeze so I didn’t slip in the shower! Well that was stupid because that sneeze is what did it. I felt the pain shoot down my right leg! OMG! Ouch! And ever since that wonderful morning in the shower I feel that lovely shooting pain down my right leg every day!

So I joined the wellness program with Massage Envy. I love it! It isn’t the “spa” feeling you get when you go for a spa day but damn it feels good! So I will be going for massages 2 times a month now. The first time I went I got the full body and then Monday I just had my girl work on my lower back, I am hoping my back with get back in shape so I don’t have to go the medical route.

Oy – I love you Turtle!! You back breaker!! :O)

Join the group!

Remember that Goal - you know Reading?

In a previous post about Goals for the New Year, I posted about wanting to get back to reading in 2011. Well February is almost over and do you want to guess how many books I have read? LOL Yup you are right zero, nada, zilch, NONE! Isn’t that sad? Well it makes me very sad.

So here I am again, letting all of you know that I have 10 months to read 12 books. I even made a fun icon – maybe that will help motivate me! It is cute.

First book on my list:

Mini Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella – I love the Shopaholic Series and can’t wait to get some chic lit in my little head again!

And some other books that I would like to read this year:

Now most of my reading is usually chic lit! I love it but I really have heard great things about the “Girl with the dragon tattoo” series so I want to give the 1st book a try and then see if I want to read the rest of the series.

I hope to do book reports on said books – like I said in my previous New Goal post!

So adorable. He has his shades on and ready to hit the road.

He has been in this car seat since January but I just now got a picture of him. He really seems to enjoy it.

This is how I do it...

I wrote this entry for Woah Momma's blog. For some reason she can't get it to upload on her blog. Well I am very excited about this entry so I want to share it. I really hope that it will be on Woah Momma's blog too but if not here it is on mine! :O)

Hi there!
I am so honored that I am able to share our life with Jenn’s readers. My name is Censie (said like Kenzie), different I know, from Building Our Story. I am the proud mommy of Jude and the happy wife of Jeremy – this last 7 almost 8 months with Jude has been amazing and we love being a party of 3 now!

Who we are:
Jeremy and I met in college. We have been married for 7 and half years now. We live in Denver Colorado and love it! We are both natives of Colorado and have no desire to live anywhere else, Colorado is HOME! I work for a non-profit in Denver that helps abused and neglected kiddos. I love it! I have been at this agency for 5 years now. Jeremy is a social worker and investigates child abuse. He loves it – it is a job that is hard to hear about but I know he is doing such great work. We are very thankful for our jobs and happy that we both like our jobs too.
Jude is 7 months old (almost 8). He was born on June 25th. We love our little Turtle and he is growing so fast and it has been so much fun.

Our Day (Work Day):

5:15am – 6:00am: The alarm goes off at 5:15am (way too freakin early if you ask me!).
By 5:30am I am out of bed and in the shower. Jeremy is getting dressed and ready for the day and ready to walk out the door.

6:00am – 6:15am: Once I am out of the shower and semi-ready we wake up Jude around 6am. Jude isn’t thrilled with this wake – up time. He really is a baby that would love to sleep in until 8am every day. Jeremy and I both wake Jude up. It is our little family time in the morning. I pick out his clothes and Jeremy plays with him for a couple minutes and then finishes getting him dressed. While Jude is getting dressed I am doing my hair and makeup.

6:15am – 6:45am: Jeremy leaves around 6:15 for work. Jude plays on our bedroom floor while I get my lunch packed, coffee made, diaper bag packed and morning bottle made. I feed him his bottle, this takes him until about 6:40. One last diaper change, coats on and we are out the door and hopefully in the car by 6:45am.

6:45am – 7:10am: Head to my parents’ house – we are so lucky. Both of my parents are retired teachers so they watch Jude full time for us. Like I said we are so lucky and we know it. They do this cost free and love it.

8:00am – 4:00pm: I work. I think of my kiddo a lot. I miss him. I usually blog about him when I am sad for being away. I do know that he is in good hands and having fun with Grandma and Grandpa though.
I work Tuesday through Friday in the office and Monday’s I get to stay at home with Jude and work from home. I love that day. We get to play and read and have Mommy/Jude time but I don’t have to take a pay cut – I love my work!!
Even better is that Jeremy works 7am-4:30pm Monday through Thursday which allows him to work 8am-12pm on Friday’s so he picks Jude up early on Friday’s for some Daddy/Jude time!

5:30pm – 6:30pm: Dinner time!! Jude eats with us, we love teaching him about eating together at the kitchen table as a family. Yummy!!

6:30pm – 8:30pm: Jude’s play time with his toys and Mommy and Daddy. He also takes a bottle during this time. Just to tie him over until his bedtime bottle.

8:30pm – 9:30pm: Bedtime routine! Yes we do a late routine, I just can’t put him down earlier. I know he could go down earlier but I want to spend as much time with him as I can!! Some nights he does go down earlier than this.
Our routine – bath time every other night. Into PJ’s, lights dimmed, rockabye baby cd on, read a book, twilight turtle on, bed time bottle and hopefully sleep soon after!

10:30pm – bed time for Mommy and Daddy

So that is our day (work day). We love the weekends by the way! So much more time for family and fun! It would be great if we didn’t have to work right? ;O)

Jeremy and I really do work together for most of the household duties. We have never been one of those couples that have set jobs around the house. I am thankful for that. At least once a week we vacuum the house, clean the bathrooms and kitchen. Usually this is done during the work week. And we take turns. On the weekends it is the bigger duties that we attend too. Yard work, laundry and deep cleaning (which we haven’t done in a while – on my list!!). I am so thankful for a husband that helps around the house so much. It is great, makes everything easier.

Child Care:
As stated earlier, we are so lucky. My parents watch Jude for us. This makes us feel so much better – being that Jeremy is a Caseworker he sees a lot of kiddos in bad situations in day cares so I don’t know what we would have done without my parents. And they live 12 minutes away from us! Great!!! We love them so much for being there for our little Turtle.

My enemy:
WORKING OUT! When do I do it? I can’t get up earlier – I would be a crazy woman and I can’t stay up later either. I know I have to make time and I really want to work on it. But it really is my enemy now. I hate the thought of not making time for myself to do it. Any tips would be lovely!! Thanks ladies!!

What is the hardest thing about being a working mom?
I miss him so much when I am at work. I think about everything that I could be missing – is he crawling, talking, ect for the first time right now? Oh it kills me to think like that. I have many SAHM friends and I see the benefits they get with being with their kiddo(s) full time and at times I am terribly jealous but then I think about the real world. In order for us to have a SAHP we would have to cut so much out of our life. Financially we can’t do it right now and I would rather have some money saved up and live comfortably with Jude and Jeremy than live a life of strain and fear. I also really enjoy what I do and what my agency does for kids in my city. It brings me happiness knowing I am a part of it.

What is your “secret” to making things work?
Take pictures to work, share them with everyone. Brag your butt off about your kiddo. It warms your heart and makes it that much better walking into daycare to pick up your kiddo and see him smile and reach up for you! Make the weekend family time. Make sure that you do take time for you and your SO – it hard, I feel guilty when we go on date nights but I know (deep down) that the date nights are healthy and necessary for us. In fact, we probably need more of those said date nights. Anyone want to babysit? lol

Would you stay home with your kid(s) if given the opportunity?
If I had the opportunity right now to be a SAHM I would do it in a heartbeat!! But I think my dream in the future is to work part-time. That would give me more time to be that mother and wife I want to be but also have the adult interaction I love and also feel like I am financially contributing to our family. And I also love that my son will have a great relationship with my parents. I think that is so special for him. Plus they are both retired teachers, I foresee some early educational interventions! lol

I am very organized and I actually feel crazy when I am not overly organized with Jude’s things – especially his food. We are not making our own baby food, we are buying. I have decided to buy a month’s worth of food – easier on the wallet and time in the story every week. So our pantry is full of Jude food. I love it. It is organized into fruits, veggies, meats and snacks. His laundry is also very organized. This helps me every morning know exactly what needs to be taken to my parents and what he will be wearing throughout the week. Yup you guessed it, I am a planner!

Unfortunately we have some diet constraints when it comes to food that has changed our normal eating habits. These constraints showed their ugly heads in September with Jeremy’s ulcerative colitis. We are still working on some colitis friendly meals so right now we eat what we can piece together; I hope that gets better for his sake and my sake. So, food, is a work in progress in our household!

Well that was a lot! I think I am done. Thank you for listing and if you want to know more about our family and see our Turtle grow please follow us!

I'm the winner!!

Look what I won!!! :O) I am so excited to get this completed. It will be perfect for Jude's birthday! Make sure you visit this blog and company!

Y3W - Welcome New Tooth

Teething is not fun!

Don't get me wrong - I love seeing that little tooth actually appear but really, it isnt fun for Mommy and Daddy. Well I am just assuming it REALLY SUCKS for little Jude too!

Another milestone - another day.

I am hoping that we can get a picture of said tooth soon - that is if the teething monster allows us too!

Any tips for making this easier on Jude, Mommy and Daddy?
He seems fine during the day BUT at night after he has been asleep for a couple hours he wakes up screaming and won't sleep on his own for the rest of the night!

Thankful Thursday - My Artist, My Husband

Today I am thankful for my husband, Jeremy. He is the love of my life, my baby-daddy (lol) and a talented man.

He doesn’t show this side of him often but once a year he breaks out the paint and creativity and starts on his hearts.

A local art gallery called CHAC (Chicano Humanities & Arts Council) that we frequent puts on a wonderful event every February that any local artist/person can enter hearts in for the silent auction. All proceeds go to CHAC. It is a fun evening and we always walk away with fun art in the shape of hearts!! Love it!

Milagros del Corazon (Miracles of the Heart)

Jeremy really should do more with his artistic abilities, don’t you think?

7 Months Old! January 25, 2011

Jude is 7 Months! I know, I can hardly believe it. It really is going fast and all I can think about is how much he has changed daily since the day we met him.

January 25th, 2011
“Look at me! I am 7 Months”

Some Milestones:
No teeth yet – but they are coming in (I know we have said that before but I am pretty sure we are right this time!) LOL

Not crawling BUT so close. He can get around to anything he wants to now by rolling and scooting. I know that crawling is next and my dad even saw him up on all fours and rocking back and forth – progress! Crawling or not – he is on the move! And he is fast! Not sure if Turtle was the right nickname for him!

Eating so well!! He loves eating and is really getting the hang of using his lips and tongue to clean the spoon when eating! YAY!! We introduced yogurt into his diet and he seems to really like it. Yummo! We are on the 2nd stage foods still. Veggies, Fruits, Meats, Cereal and Yogurt are his diet oh and formula too.

He has mastered the idea of reaching up for me or Jeremy when he wants to be held. It is adorable and it makes my heart melt!

He was diagnosed with Croup on the 28th of January. It was sad to hear that barking cough, we caught it early though – so he is feeling better now. Hopefully that is the end of the sickies for the year for him!!

We did find out that he broke the 20 pound mark when we took him in for Croup.

7 Months his weight was 20 pounds 5 ounces (81%) – they didn’t measure him.
Look at those red cheeks! This was the onset of the Croup/cold he got a couple days later. Poor Turtle!

Happy 7 Months Turtle! We love you so much!!

Oh yikes – we have less than 5 months to plan your birthday party! Count down begins….

Fixin the Piggy

Taxes – the dreaded word of the new year. The last couple of years we have owed a substantial amount of money for taxes. Okay, not THAT much but more than I ever really wanted to deal with paying. It is just plan depressing.

Well with my “cold days” off I sat down and started said taxes for 2010. I have a smile on my face. With the increase of charitable donations, replacement of windows and Jude we are in the GREEN! For once!
I have not filed yet, so I haven’t seen what I will be getting for State just yet but I am so happy that we will be able to build up our savings again and use some of the money to pay off some credit cards.

Thank you Uncle Sam. We will be able to fix our piggy bank just a little this year!
Don't forget to play! Link up...

A "Cold" Day for Mommy and Jude

Well you all need an update, I know, I am a slacker again!! I have an accuse though – ICE and COLD!! Oh and Jude! Lol

Jude and I got to stay home Monday, Tuesday AND Wednesday together. Why you ask? Oh because here in Denver on Tuesday the wind chill was -32 if not more at times and the high of the day was -3. All of the schools were closed and many businesses as well. It was just too cold for anyone to be out in the elements. We really didn’t get too much snow but the ice and wind chill was crazy. Wednesday was the same, I think the high was 1, not sure what the wind chill was but either way – too cold for Jude’s little lungs. So here are some updates in picture form.

Mommy and Jude’s snow day or “Cold Day” adventures!

This is Jude’s window in his room – yes that is ice on the inside. It was actually about a 1 and a half inch thick layer of ice on his window. Poor baby! Too cold!!! Thankfully that has melted and we now have a normal looking window again! Crazy!

Soccer time!! He has mad skills people!

A snow day nap – yup he is a tummy sleeper just like his mommy!

What a good nap – ready for some Mommy and Jude time. Such a smile!

Mommy had to work from home some so Jude got his laptop and joined in the 9-5 life. He got a TON done! Anyone want to hire him?

We missed Daddy a lot he had to go to work. Sad. :( Maybe next time he will get to stay at home with us.

In other news – we had to replace our 20 year old hand-me-down TV last night. Jeremy went out to Best Buy and found one for a great day. It really was a perfect time for the TV to go out considered it is Super Bowl Weekend but I hate that we spent almost $500 on a TV! Seriously!! Hate that! Oh well. It is what it is.

Well that is just some of our life this week. It has been a crazy week and I feel all out of sorts, I am back at work today (missing my boy like crazy) and watching snow fall fast and hard – wondering if we have another snow day in the works. Ummm…fingers crossed!!
