Oogave Natural Sodas - Review and Giveaway

Looking for a better soda for your family? I found the perfect one!!

  Photobucket

Oogave let me try a sample pack of their sodas.  I was pleased with them all.  I have a thing about soda - I love it!  I can drink it much easier than water but as you know I am trying really hard to strive for health which pretty much takes out POP!

Well now that I know and LOVE Oogave soda I know I am making a better choice for my health.

Oogave is another great Colorado product - YAY Colorado!!  I love supporting our neighbors.

I think my favorite flavor has to be the watermelon cream but really any of the flavors are great.  Jeremy enjoyed the root beer flavor as well.

About Oogave:

The idea for Oogavé organic sodas first came to Esteban Anson while running his small natural foods restaurant in downtown Denver. As a fanatic of quality, and a devotee of delicious and wholesome handcrafted foods, Esteban used only the best natural ingredients in his restaurant. From the fresh baked breads to the home-made salad dressings, nothing artificial or commercial made it past Esteban. And that’s what his customers kept coming back for. But when it came time to order sodas, Esteban and his customers were still frustrated by the lack of quality and choice in the world of soft drinks. Wanting to offer a variety of fountain sodas, Esteban was dismayed at the treatment and options available through the traditional “evil empire” soda companies. He didn’t want to sign his life away in iron-handed contracts, and he especially didn’t want to serve his customers anything made with processed sugar and High Fructose Corn Syrup.

What to do? Esteban thought, "Why not make my own organic soda that is all natural?" Esteban was already a huge fan of agave nectar, using it in much of his baking and as a sugar substitute in many sauces and recipes. He loved using it in recipes because it was delicious, all natural, easy-to-mix, and was much healthier than the traditional commercial alternatives. Esteban thought this wonder nectar just might make a delicious and healthier soda. And he was right! After many months of intense research, wild mixology, and copious tastings with friends and family, Esteban was sure he had found a better way to make soda. His inspired new agave creations were obviously healthier, but now he could mix a variety of fun and delicious flavors that his customers could get excited about. Esteban knew he was onto something, and on April 13th, 2005 he began serving Oogavé sodas in his restaurant.

With the help of two close friends and the Small Business Administration, Esteban built his own little soda plant right here in Denver, Colorado. The operation was certified Kosher and Organic by Scroll K and the Colorado Department of Agriculture. In January of 2009, the ribbon was cut and the first delicious bottles of Oogavé organic soda rolled off the line heading for natural grocery stores and restaurants around Colorado.

Today, Oogavé is available in natural grocery stores and thoughtful restaurants in 47 states.

Available flavors:
Cola, Root Beer, Mandarin Key-Lime, Ginger Ale, Watermelon Cream, Grapefruit, Vanilla Cream, and Strawberry Rhubarb.

I am very impressed that Oogave is a certified organic soda that uses ONLY agave nectar as a sweetener. No high fructose corn syrup, cane sugar or chemical sweeteners added. They are gluten-free, vegan, low glycemic, caffeine free and each bottle contains only 100 calories. Which is very important to me and several other people I know.

 Where to purchase:
You are able to purchase from the Oogave website. You are also able to go here and find what retailers you can find Oogave at to purchase.

Oogave has been kind enough to let one of my lucky readers try some Oogave Soda of their own!
You could win one case (12 bottles) of soda which can be a mixed case or one flavor - Winners choice!!

Thank you Oogave!!

Wordless Wednesday: Spring Training

We went to visit Jeremy's parents in Arizona last week and while we were there we went to a Colorado Rockies Spring Training Game. Jude had a blast and was such a good boy! I thought we would be chasing him all over the park but he actually sat on our laps and cheered for the players! So fun!

And then at the 5th inning he was OUT! :O)

Guest Post - Mama Luvs Books

Writing a guest post for Building Our Story is very exciting for me.

I wanted to take this time to share with you one of my favorite book reviews that I think you may find helpful to you in your life. I am a mom blogger who writes book reviews, product reviews, fun family posts, and I host many giveaways on my site. I hope you visit me sometime soon at Mama Luvs Books

Until then, please enjoy this book review I wrote and see if it's a book you may want to read as well.

I have been having an awful time dealing with my 4-year old son and his eating habits. He has been increasingly getting worse too! He seems to always ask for sweets, and when I offer him a healthier food instead he just doesn’t eat. I feel like this kid is either starving or eating junk. I have been feeling extreme guilt from this as well. Everyone wants to be the best parents they can be, and when your child is continually asking for food that is not healthy, it makes you feel like a failure as a parent.

Photobucket

I just finished reading “The No-Cry Picky Eater Solution” by, Elizabeth Pantley. It is seriously one of the best informational parenting books I’ve read in a long time.
A big THANK YOU to Elizabeth Pantley for making me feel better and to give me strategies to deal with picky eaters. It was nice to hear that I am not alone, and that my child and I are both “normal.” There are many other parents out there that are dealing with my same issues, feel my same guilt, and it was nice to learn that a lot of it could be a natural instinct for my son to gravitate towards these sweeter foods (although apparently it didn’t help that I craved sweets and indulged while pregnant with him).

Here are my favorite things about “The No-Cry Picky Eater Solution”:

 1. The book gives you some background at why kids can be picky eaters.

 2. The book helps you to understand if your child is a typical picky eater or something more serious.

 3. The book gives you facts about eating and about foods with listed solutions.

 4. The book describes the “fundamental four” when dealing with picky eaters: Attitude, Environment, Amounts, and Rules.

 5. The “Rules” section is great! It lists the rule, if you should break it or keep it, and tips about the rule.

 6. The book has tricks and tips to get picky eaters to eat! Here’s the one I am trying this week (as my son is addicted to PB&J): “Begin by replacing one slice of bread with whole wheat, keeping the other slice white. Place the sandwich on the plate with the white bread on top. Over time, experiment with replacing both pieces of white bread with whole wheat bread.” Pantley then goes on to explain replacing the peanut butter and jelly portions with healthier alternatives. Such a great idea and a slow transition that will be easier for the kids.

 7. There is a list of healthier alternatives for food that is not-so-healthy. Pantley says not to use words like fat and junk food. She says it’s best to state things positively to kids about food, such as “Once you are finished with your healthy meal you may have a dessert” instead of “No junk food until you eat that healthy food.”

 8. LOVE “The Experts’ Favorites” section at the back of the book! t has wonderful recipes for kid-friendly healthy meals. Yes, there are even yummy desserts!!!

This book is my new GO-TO parenting book! I will be keeping it in the kitchen to refer back to! I will also be setting a good example to my kids by eating healthy and having all of us sit down together at the table for meals. It’s a hard thing to do with our hectic schedule, but Pantley emphasizes how helpful this is for healthy eating. We will try our best! Kids learn from parents!

Daddy Scrubs Review and Giveaway

Photobucket

Have you heard of Dadddy Scrubs?  Do you have a soon to be Daddy in our life?

I have always felt like the expectant fathers get forgotten during the prep time of a baby and I now know what I will be buying for every expectant father that I am close to.

DaddyScrubs™ is the offspring of Robert Nickell, who fathered his first four children more than 20 years ago. DaddyScrubs™ was conceived when Robert, who remarried in 2007, discovered he was about to be a father all over again in the fall of 2009!

Not wanting to endure the pains of wearing uncomfortable street clothes while comforting his laboring wife, Robert hatched the idea of creating doctor-like scrubs for himself. It seemed a natural thing for him to do — since Robert is a pharmacist by profession.

To eliminate the confusion between “who’s the doctor” and “who’s the daddy,” Robert fashioned the concept of “I’m The Daddy™” medical scrubs.

Daddy Scrubs!  As most of you know my brother and his girlfriend are expecting twins in just a couple of weeks.  When I was offered this review I was thrilled because I knew that my brother would love them.

  Photobucket

The Daddy Scrubs are well made and very comfortable - just like any other pair of scrubs.  I love wearing scrubs for PJs so I can imagine that these will really come in handy for my brother while he is at the hospital overnight with his beloved and new babies.

Not only are these practical they are fun!  Jarrin was so excited to try these on and put them in the hospital bag.  I love that it gives him something special for the big day too!

Photobucket

The back of the shirt is the best part - I can already see the smiles that my brother will be giving other expectant families and the nurses too.  Should be funny!

I am hoping that I can buy a pair of these for Jeremy really soon!  ;o)  Fingers crossed!

I would recommend these to anyone that needs that great gift for the expectant fathers in their lives!  Sizing is true to size - follow the size instructions!

You can buy a pair of Daddy Scrubs for $44.95 - here!

OR you can be one of my lucky readers to get a pair for free from Daddy Scrubs!

Disclaimer: Daddy Scrubs provided me with a free set of scrubs for my review. All thoughts, reviews and opinions are my own and have not been influenced by anyone in anyway. All opinions are my own.

Guest Post - Tales of Two Girls

Hi everyone! I'm Tessa from Tales of Two Girls.  As evident from my blog title, I have two little girls, Kendall (3.5) and Sydney (21 months).

I remember getting those two pink lines when we found out I was pregnant with Sydney.  You have so many emotions in a split second, it's unbelievable.  Your brain jumps around to "OMG! Another baby! How exciting!" to "What the heck did we get ourselves into??" to "Kendall's going to have another sibling! How great for her!" to "Is she going to get jealous? Is she going to resent us from taking attention away from her??"

It's nerve wracking to add to your family.  You have the fear, that every mother has, that there is no way on Earth that you could love this new baby as much as your first.  I mean, your child is the smartest, cutest, funniest, greatest child in the world.  How do you compete with that?

As cliched as it sounds, when your new baby is placed in your arms, you just know.  You know that you can love them as much.  You know that they were meant to be here.  You know that your family wasn't complete without them.

I was so nervous leading up to the birth, on how we would prepare Kendall for this huge transition.  She was just over 19 months when Sydney was born.  I soaked in all the time I could with her leading up to the birth.  I wanted to capture all of the one on one moments that I was afraid would be hard to find in the foreseeable future.  I wanted to make her feel like this was exciting for her, too.  I bought her a couple of Big Sister gifts to have ready for her at the hospital.

The funny thing was, she seemed to be completely oblivious.  The day came when she got to meet her little sister, and she looked at her and went on her merry way.  At first it was like a "this is what all the hype is about??".

In the following weeks, things changed and she became so much more entranced by her little sister.  I tried to always keep her in the process.  If Sydney needed a diaper change, Kendall got to be my big helper and hand me the wipes.  If Sydney needed a blanket, Kendall got to get it.  She loved to be part of the experience.  When I would be nursing Sydney, I'd try to let Kendall sit next to us and read books together.  Above all, I didn't want her to feel left out.  To feel replaced.  That was my biggest fear.

Since I was breastfeeding, a lot of the care of the new baby fell on my shoulders.  This meant that my husband was now the one responsible for more of the tasks involving Kendall.  It was such a blessing, because she loved the special daddy time.  He'd take her out to play outside, or play special games with her.  If anything, I think she got more attention out of the deal!

We could just be lucky, or it could be do to her young age, and not really knowing any better.  From the day we brought the baby home, she's been an amazing big sister.  While there are always going to be sibling fights and irritations, there is a love between them that cannot be described.  I really think seeing the love your children have for each other is the most amazing part about parenthood.

My advice for parent's about to add a new baby into the mix, is to just keep it fun.  Keep it an exciting time for your oldest child.  Always let them know that they are still loved and important, even if you can't do as much as before.  It will all fall into place, and it will all be worth it!

Thank you so much to Censie for letting me come and guest post!

Jude's 1st Dentist Appointment

Yesterday I took Jude to his very first dentist appointment! YAY!
He was such a good boy and did so well.

Honestly, the appointment was only 10 minutes long! LOL But I am so proud of him! I was so pleased with the dentist too.

We decided to take him to the dentist that Jeremy and I have been comfortable with. They were amazing!! They took the time to hold his hand and get to know him and then started looking at his teeth. He didn't let them polish his teeth but they were able to get in there with a brush and count his teeth and check everything out. He passed! Great teeth!

The only thing that they told us to start doing is flossing his teeth.  I have to tell ya, I laughed a little.  I just don't think he will let us!  I will be trying it - they gave us some kid size floss picks so we will see.  Basically we got the no juice talk, which we do not do anyway, and the brushing everyday talk - which Jude loves to do so right now we are doing great!  Just flossing...
Any tips?

He was very excited to be able to pick out a new toothbrush, he chose a dinosaur one! And then on our way out he got to choose a prize for being so big! He picked out a baseball bean bag and played with it all day long!   :O)

We have another appointment in 6 months, I am hoping that if we make the dentist a fun place and a normal place that he will not end up like me and need medication to get through a cleaning!   ;o)

That is my hope!!

 Time for some fun pictures!

Let her see those teeth Jude!
