We are a cereal loving family, probably one of the staples that is always on my weekend grocery list.  I try to always switch up with cereals we buy to make sure we are getting some different varieties in our morning breakfast routine.  Over the years of buying cereal and knowing how much my whole family enjoy cereal I have started making recipes with cereal - from desserts to savory main dishes.

Last weekend when I headed to Walmart to do my grocery shopping I headed straight to the cereal aisle and instantly saw the SING National Sweepstakes on select Post cereal boxes.  Have you seen the previews for SING yet?  Oh.My.Gosh!!  A movie that will have our whole family singing and dancing in the theater, I cannot wait to see it in the theater.  I may be more excited for it than the kids.
So, when I saw that some of our favorite cereals had this SING sweepstakes I knew I had to pick up some extra boxes.  The SING sweepstakes gives you a chance at SING movie tickets OR $100,000!!  WHAT!!?!? And the best part? It is a sweepstakes that is super easy to enter - simply Enter codes that are printed inside the box into the sweepstakes website.

After unloading my groceries I noticed that I may have bought more cereal than we really needed so my creative recipe brain got to thinking.  What sounds amazing on a cold winter weekend (like super cold - Colorado had a deep freeze)?  Warm apple pie...yes please.

I am not a fan of making pie crust so I decided to think outside the pie pan.  Instead I went for some Baked Caramel Crumble Apples made with a non-traditional crumble.  The crumble included Grape Nuts from Post.  Made the house smell absolutely amazing and these apples were to die for.  So perfect for this time of the year.

2.  Make apples into a little bowl.  Slice the tops off of the apple, do not remove too much apple, just make the apple flat on top.

I have always loved Grape Nuts but honestly never thought of them as anything but cereal.  For this crumble recipe I replaced my normal rolled oats with the Grape Nuts, honestly, this might be my best crumble I have ever made.  The Grape Nuts add some extra flavor and lots of crunch, even after being baked.

  1. What a cool idea! I love mixed textures and that this maintains some crunch to it. My husband especially doesn't like when foods are just mush. I love your idea and how easy it is to incorporate the grape nuts right into the recipe. Perfect way to use up those apples from apple-picking season!

  2. I just love any type of baked apples. This looks yummy. I have never made them but eat them all the time when we are out. I'm going to try your recipe.

  3. I think that my husband would absolutely adore this recipe. He has the biggest sweet tooth and I think he would just love everything that goes into this. My only question is how much of a flavor difference is there in different apples? Would a honey crisp make a sweeter baked apple and would a Granny Smith be really tart?

  5. I very rarely buy cereal. It is such a special treat that we acutally buy our kids their own box of cereal for Christmas, and it is one of their favorite gifts! LOL Part of that is because I'm lazy and don't want to mess with making breakfast on Christmas morning. These baked apples are making my mouth water! Definitely worth buying the Grape Nuts for!

  7. This looks like it tastes amazing. My youngest son is obsessed with apples right now so this would definitely be something that I am sure he would love if I made. It seems simple enough so I may surprise him with a treat one afternoon after the holidays have passed.

  8. Yummy, yummy, get in my tummy. This looks like a great recipe for a healthy treat. I loved Grapenuts since they first came out. I sure miss the old version, that stayed hard longer. It gets soft too easy.
