Are you ready for some football?  We are!!  Our favorite season is here and the best part about the early games of the season is that the weather is still almost like summer which means preparing for a fun game day is even easier.  Those college football games are what bring us into my very favorite season, fall!  Love it!!  Don't get me wrong, I do love some summertime fun but this time of the year has it all!

We have all heard of tailgating but have you tried grill-gating?  Well, we have and it is the best way to prepare some great dishes for your next game day gathering!  Now, I do love a good college football game but honestly, my favorite part of game day is the hosting!  I love preparing new football food for our family and friends.  But, in my usual fashion, I am not one that wants to be slaving in the kitchen for the whole event.  I have found some great ways to enjoy the gathering without too much work and still enjoy the social fun during the games!

This year my grill gating essentials are Dr Pepper®, Kingsford® Charcoal, RITZ® crackers, and Hidden Valley® Ranch.  All of these products make for a great game day spread!  So good!!  I am a sucker for appetizers like cheese and crackers and veggies but most of our guests want a "main dish" while enjoying their games.  So, this year I decided to get a bit creative with our favorite soda, Dr Pepper.  In the past I have shared my love of cooking and baking with Dr Pepper, it adds so much flavor.  Now this new recipe, might be my favorite and it can be served as a sit down meal or as a finger food.  Perfect!

2-3 pound pork tenderloin
1 can of Dr Pepper

Directions:

1.  Prepare the pork tenderloin by puncturing the tenderloin with a fork.  This will allow the marinade to get into the tenderloin better.

2.  Place tenderloin in a gallon size resealable bag.

3.  Put the following ingredients into bag on top of the tenderloin - soy sauce, oil, lime juice, garlic, hot sauce and green onions.

4.  Carefully shake the bag to combine all of the ingredients in the bag.

7.  When ready to grill, prepare grill with charcoal.  Once the charcoal is hot, place tenderloin on grill for 30-40 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches at least 145 degrees.

8.  Once cooked fully, remove from grill and let sit for 15 minutes.  Then slice the pork tenderloin into slices.  This will allow this pork to be a "finger food" for your game day gathering!  Enjoy warm!!

Delicious!  And super easy to prepare before or during your game day gathering.  We love having the grill going during our game day gatherings because it gets people ready for the game.  Seems like the gathering place to catch up with family and friends is at the grill!  Another great reason to love the beginning of football season, the weather allows for us to have this time outside before the games start.

Kingsford is the only charcoal we use when we get the charcoal grill going.  And honestly, the best way, in my opinion, to enjoy a great grilled recipe is using charcoal. Growing up that was the only way my parents grilled out so there is a bit of a nostalgic feeling when we start pouring those Kingsford briquettes into the grill!

Like I said, I do love appetizers but I like to make them fun for our guests too.  Especially when we have kids over for the games on the weekends.  I decided to try my hand at a veggie dish in the shape of a football.  For the limited time it took, I think it turned out great!!  When I asked my kids what it looked like, they immediately said "A FOOTBALL!"  So, I take that as a win!!

Lots of people aren't big fans of veggies but as long as I pair my veggie trays with Hidden Valley Ranch dressing, those veggies get eaten fast, no matter the event!

  1. I LOVE a good pork tenderloin but I've NEVER considered cooking one over a charcoal fire. I'm sure it takes it to the next level!

  2. I love to grill and we grill quite a bit during the summer. I have seen many times, where soda is added I to the marinade, but for the life of me, I can't seem to remember to do this! We love Ritz crackers as well and are the best with summer sausage and mustard!
